Description

Sunship Earth is a curriculum-based environmental science program specifically designed for 5th graders, that teaches major environmental concepts (for example, cycles, succession, niches, food chains) and guides students to form an appreciation for the Earth’s wonders. The format of this program allows students to arrive as the amazing individuals they already are and leave after 5 days and 4 nights together as a close-knit, connected community.

  • Highly Structured & Hands-On Activities: Students learn major Earth processes through experiential and fun activities within the beauty of the bottomland hardwood forest. They become clouds traveling through the water cycle, work as producers inside a leaf to better understand photosynthesis, avoid becoming the prey of coyotes in a game of environmental competition and much more.

  • Holistic Learning: Our curriculum integrates physical, emotional, and social aspects of learning, encouraging students to reflect on their relationship with the environment and fostering a sense of stewardship.

  • Dedicated Support: The Sunship Earth staff, chaperones, and classroom teachers combine efforts to provide a dynamic, effective learning experience. The teacher is encouraged to extend the program back at school so that the students can continue to apply their learning, even beyond the classroom. Sunship Earth is a beginning unit rather than a culminating one.

Teaching Responsible Earth Education (T.R.E.E.)

Since 1995, TREE’s mission has been to educate children and adults about the life science processes that govern our planet, to inspire them to appreciate the natural world, and to motivate them to protect it. Highly trained educators immerse 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th grade students in life science adventures both on and off-school campuses exploring nature's bounty while also covering state standards.
